For Families

Clear information for your family’s next step

When someone you love is experiencing changes in memory or thinking, it can be difficult to know where to begin.

Brain & Body Health Inc. (BBH) provides educational information about cognitive health, research, and questions families may wish to consider when evaluating care options. BBH does not provide diagnosis, treatment, residential care or admissions services.

How BBH can help

BBH is a nonprofit organization focused on cognitive-health research, education, scientific collaboration and the evaluation of real-world outcomes.

Families may contact BBH with questions about our organization, educational resources, research interests, and future opportunities to take part in approved research.

For an individual's diagnosis, treatment or medical care, please consult the appropriate licensed healthcare professional. Questions about a specific residential or clinical program should be directed to that program's care team.

Questions to Ask When Considering a Cognitive-Health Program

These questions may be useful when evaluating residential, outpatient, intensive, or other cognitive-health programs.

Who is the program designed for, and how is suitability assessed?

What medical, cognitive, functional and quality-of-life outcomes are measured?

What evidence supports the program's individual components, and which elements remain investigational?

Who provides day-to-day support and clinical care?

What services are included, what are the costs, and what additional charges may apply?

What does a typical day involve?

How are families involved in care planning and communication?

How are progress, difficulties and changes in care needs reviewed and documented?

What happens when a participant leaves the program, and what follow-up is recommended?

Is research participation ever offered? If so, how is research kept separate from ordinary care?

Can a participant decline research participation without it affecting their care?

Common questions

What does BBH do?

BBH supports cognitive-health research, education, scientific collaboration and transparent outcome evaluation. BBH does not provide residential care, admissions, diagnosis or treatment.

Is BBH a healthcare provider?

No. BBH is a nonprofit research and education organization. Medical decisions should be made with the individual's licensed healthcare professionals.

Can BBH recommend a specific residential program?

No. BBH shares general educational information, but families should evaluate each program themselves and speak directly with its clinical and admissions teams.

Is BBH currently recruiting for a study?

BBH is developing research initiatives in cognitive health. Any future study that recruits participants will provide its own information, eligibility criteria, informed-consent process, contact details, and the appropriate IRB or other applicable ethical/institutional review, as required

Does research involvement mean a program is proven to work?

No. Research is a way to examine outcomes and answer questions. Taking part in a study or evaluation does not establish that a program is effective and does not guarantee an individual result.

What information would we receive about a future study?

Any future study invitation should explain the purpose of the study, what participation involves, possible risks and burdens, how information will be used, any costs or payments, that participation is voluntary, how to withdraw, and whom to contact with questions.

Does BBH currently provide financial assistance for residential care?

Not at this time. Improving access is part of BBH's long-term charitable vision, and any future program will be published with its eligibility criteria and application process.
