A nonprofit committed to better understanding cognitive health
Brain & Body Health Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing the understanding of cognitive health through research, education, outcome evaluation and professional collaboration.
We aim to help families, professionals and partner organizations better understand emerging whole-person approaches, the outcomes being measured, and the important questions that still require rigorous study.
Our mission
To advance understanding of cognitive health through education, research collaboration, and transparent evaluation of whole-person approaches and real-world outcomes.
Why this work matters to us
For Steven Larsen, J.D., this work has both a professional and a personal foundation. His family’s experience with Alzheimer’s disease deepened his commitment to finding better ways to understand cognitive care and support families.
Steve’s decades in senior living and residential care raised practical questions: How should progress be measured? Which parts of a program make a difference? What can care teams learn from carefully collected evidence?
Brain & Body Health Inc. was created to help explore these questions through a charitable mission that extends beyond any single program.
Our people

Steven J.L. Larsen, J.D. Founder & President
Steve Larsen is an attorney and senior executive with more than three decades of experience in senior living, residential care and real estate development. His work in aging services began in a Michigan skilled nursing facility while he was in school, and later included developing, licensing and operating adult-care communities. His family's experience with Alzheimer's disease made the questions behind BBH personal: how cognitive care can be better understood, measured and explained to families. As Founder and President, he builds the partnerships and governance that BBH's research depends on. He is a licensed pilot, a lifelong athlete, a Rotarian and a member of the Arch Klumph Society of The Rotary Foundation.

Mariana Espinassi Director of Research and Scientific Collaboration
Mariana Espinassi is a dental surgeon, implantologist, educator, and researcher with more than 25 years of professional experience in Argentina and Spain. Her work increasingly focuses on oral-systemic health and on research questions involving oral health, inflammation, the microbiome, metabolic health, and cognitive function. At Brain & Body Health, she leads research development and interdisciplinary scientific collaboration, including the organization's emerging Oral–Systemic–Brain research initiative. At BBH, she serves exclusively in a research and scientific leadership role. She is a member of the Rotary Club of South Haven and the Arch Klumph Society of The Rotary Foundation.
